Cambridge Theranostics has identified a new mechanism of atherogenesis, caused by a certain class of catalytic antibodies that cross-react with the host serum lipoproteins and cause their peroxidation. We have named these catalytic antibodies 'AtheroAbzymes'. We show that the presence of these AtheroAbzymes correlates with the level of stenosis of coronary and/or cerebral arteries and with the severity of angina, and that this process is active in most cardiovascular patients.s
Cambridge Theranostics has developed a new product Ateronon®/TM that inhibits these atherogenic antibodies. Ateronon will be sold as a prescription medical food in the US, and as a health supplement with medical claims in Europe. Cambridge Theranostics also developed the AtheroAbzyme®/TM ELISA tests which support the administration of Ateronon: identification of patients or asymptomatic individuals with active atherogenesis and monitoring and optimisation of their treatment. |
